Benefits of Aquatic Therapy

The Benefits of Aquatic Therapy

On a daily basis, physical therapists evaluate and treat people for various ailments.  One of the most common forms of treatment is the use of exercise.  Whether the goal is to increase range of motion or increase strength, exercise is a vital component in the treatment of numerous orthopedic conditions.  In some cases, complicating factors may limit a person’s ability to perform exercises properly.  In these instances, aquatic therapy may serve as a vital tool in the rehabilitation phase of recovery.

Aquatic therapy offers a wide range of benefits.  Therapeutic pools are kept at a temperature of 93 degrees Fahrenheit to provide not only an un-weighted environment to exercise in, but the warmth of the water promotes increased joint mobility, especially beneficial for senior citizens with severe arthritis.  Additional benefits include reduction of fall risk, pain relief, muscle spasm reduction, and the ability to perform early weight-bearing activities following foot, ankle, knee, or hip surgery.  A majority of our facilities offer aquatic therapy.  Please click on the “Our Locations” tab of this website for a list of locations near you.

If you think you would benefit from aquatic therapy, consult your doctor and physical therapist about the benefits of therapeutic pool exercises and help take the pain out of your recovery.
